Robert F. Powelson served as a Commissioner on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission between 2017 and 2018. In this role, Commissioner Powelson oversaw the national regulation of electricity and natural gas in interstate commerce, as well as the transport of oil by pipeline. Commissioner Powelson came to FERC from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, where he led as Chairman from 2011-2015. His critical infrastructure expertise covers issues of energy transmission, infrastructure safety, and the role of utilities in U.S. markets. He is currently the President and CEO of National Association of Water Companies. Commissioner Powelson previously served as chairman of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, and as a member of Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale Advisory Commission, which provided recommendations on the responsible development of Marcellus Shale. In 2005, he was selected by the Eisenhower Presidential Fellows to be a U.S. fellow in Singapore and Australia. A native of Pennsylvania, Powelson is a graduate of St. Joseph’s University and received a Master of Governmental Administration degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
