KT zu Guttenberg was the German Federal Minister of Defence from 2009–11. As Federal Minister of Defence, Guttenberg oversaw Germany’s military engagement in Afghanistan and reforms to the Bundeswehr. Prior to this, Guttenberg had served as Federal Minister of Economics and Technology in 2009. He studied at the University of Bayreuth and earned a PhD from the University of Southampton.
