Jonathan Cohen
Former US Ambassador to Egypt (2019-22)
Jonathan Cohen served as the US Ambassador to Egypt from 2019 to 2022, having previously served as the US Deputy Ambassador to the UN from 2018 to 2019, as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs covering Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus from 2016 to 2018, and as Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Iraq from 2013 to 2016. Today, Jonathan Cohen acts as a nonresident senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative and Middle East Programs, specializing in US-Egypt relations, Israel-Palestine relations, Iraq, and regional security in the Eastern Mediterranean and the role of the United States in it.
